Prioritization of National Research Agenda

The Center has been funded by the Foundation for Air-Medical Research and Education (FARE) to develop national research priorities for the critical care transport industry. A structured mixed-methods strategy will analyze responses from participants strategically selected to represent industry practitioners and other key stakeholders. The result will be a series of concept maps that show the clustering of research ideas generated by the participants with priority and feasibility ratings. The Center will be developing the agenda with input from a broad perspective including public and private payers, referring institutions and staff as well as industry leaders.  The result of this process will be the development of research priorities for the Center.

Development of International Practice Based Research Network

A practice-based research network of transport providers, stakeholders, and researchers is the core of the Center and will be developed as a foundation for ongoing research collaboration.  The Center will work with the State Network of Colorado Ambulatory Practices and Partners (SnoCAP) at the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Science Center to develop web platforms and secure repositories for network data.

Research Logic Model Development

A theoretical model will be developed to describe relationships of structure, process, assumptions, and outcomes related to critical care transport.  Testing portions of the model over time will enable the research community to methodically investigate multiple aspects of this complex industry.

Patterns of Rural Transport

This project will be a descriptive study focused on patterns of emergency transport from rural emergency departments.  The study is planned for participation from critical access hospitals in Ohio and Colorado and will serve to describe the role of critical care transport in linking rural hospitals to tertiary care centers.

Safety Stories

Digital storytelling is a powerful tool for illustrating the aspects of culture associated with key system processes.  This project will focus on the gathering of safety stories – a qualitative approach to discover our community’s safety strengths and weaknesses.
